Board Members
Don Ayres, PE
Don Ayres is the owner of Ayres Engineering, founded in 1982. Ayres Engineering is involved in preparing construction drawings for a wide variety of commercial and residential projects in the Atlanta metro area. Don received a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Southern Institute of Technology in 1973. Don served as the drainage and erosion control engineer for Cobb County from 1973 to 1977 and has also worked from 1977 to 1982 for Welker and Associates, Stotler Stagg and Associates, and Post, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan preparing construction drawings for municipal and private development projects. Don was elected as a Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor in 2000.
Alice Champagne, CPESC, CFM
Alice Champagne serves in the Public Works/Environmental Department as the Water Resources Manager for the Water Resources Division of the City of Roswell. Her duties include managing the Water Resources Division which oversees the water plant and the 1.2 MGD water withdrawal, water distribution for 5,500 customers, the Stormwater Management Program and the hydrology/stormwater reviews for new development. She is also the Certified Floodplain Manager for the City.
Prior to her recent tenure at Roswell (began July 2007) she was involved with the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper since its inception in 1994, and served as the Director of Technical Programs. Alice was the creator of UCR’s “Get the Dirt Out” campaign, training others to monitor construction sites from polluted stormwater runoff, not only in the Chattahoochee Basin, but throughout Georgia.
Alice holds a B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC). In 2000, she was elected as a Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor for Georgia. She was appointed by Governor Perdue in 2004 to serve on the Stakeholder Advisory Board which provides oversight for Georgia’s mandatory education and certification for erosion and sediment control. In 2005, Alice was selected to be a River Hero by River Network, a national river protection group. She has served on the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Advisory Board and is an active member of the International Erosion Control Association and the Soil and Water Conservation Society.
Alan Bowling
Alan serves as a General Manager at Gaskins Surveying and Engineering Companies, overseeing the Canton office. He manages the Civil Engineering department within Gaskins, working to ensure that clients and communities are served with excellence. Alan also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Civil Engineering Technology at Southern Polytechnic State University. His prior work includes Home Construction.
Alan has received a M.S. in Civil Engineering (in Sustainable Design and Construction) and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Georgia and a GaSWCC Certified Trainer in Erosion and Sediment Control.
Alan was appointed as a Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor in December 2008. He attends Stonebridge Church in Marietta and is deeply committed to his weekly soccer match.
Jim Lanier, CPESC
Jim holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Plant Sciences from the University of Georgia. He has been involved in the land development industry in several capacities since 1976 and is currently President/Owner of Aquascape Environmental, an environmental consulting and contracting company. A Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), Jim is often called on to speak to professional and educational groups on topics relating to erosion control, stream restoration, and other aquatic resource issues. In 2003, he was appointed to the Board of the Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District. Jim has served on the boards of several other organizations, including the Georgia Lakes Society, the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council, and the Georgia Vegetation Management Association. He also volunteers his time and resources to a variety of natural resource protection and preservation groups. When not working he enjoys hiking, rock climbing, water sports, and other activities involving the outdoors.
Woody Snell
Woody received a M.S. in Management from Georgia Tech and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and is a registered Professional Engineer in Georgia. In 1999, Woody was elected as a Cobb County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor and in 2001 he was elected as Chairman of the Cobb Soil and Water Conservation District. Woody also serves on the Soil and Water Commission Technical Advisory Committee and the Cobb County Development Standards Committee. He has previously served on the State of Georgia NPDES Advisory Committee, the Fulton County Watershed Initiative Committee and the Fulton County Development Advisory Committee. Woody has twenty years of experience in construction, engineering, management and marketing with specific expertise in land development and construction management. As a partner with The Pacific Group he is actively involved in the development of a number of residential and mixed-use communities within the Atlanta area. He is also responsible for pre-acquisition due diligence evaluations and feasibility studies. Previously, Woody gained experience as the project manager for a 450-acre master planned community in San Juan, Puerto Rico and as a principle geotechnical engineer with Law Engineering.
